Beginner Lessons
The majority of our voucher flights are for a single flight, often received as a present.
We refer to them all as an instructional flight. However if you just want to take in the view then that's fine with us. A ground based explanation is given to cover the basics of how a glider flies and any required safety information. Also gliders are silent so apart from a little wind noise it's easy to talk to your instructor during the flight.
A few enjoy it so much they return for more flights using the their automatic two months membership, meaning the cost of their flights are charged at our normal member rate. The final cost is based on time in the air and the launch height.
Advanced Lessons
The more advanced training is simply a continuation of more flights, but now following the gliding syllabus, until one day the instructor on the day is happy for you to fly on your own. A flight to be remembered!
How many training flights will I need to fly solo?
It depends on the individual's ability and other factors (usually the weather) but normally in the range of 25 to 50 flights.
Some flights will only be 10 minutes and some the maximum of 1 hour if there are thermals. (Other people will be waiting to fly).
And how much will it cost?
Probably not as much as you would think.
There are various factors that will affect this but typically we see people achieving solo standard within 30 to 50 flights of between 15 minutes to an hour. The cost of each flight depends on flight time and launch height. So if we assume 40 flights at an average of 30 minutes each with a typical 2000 foot launch height, this will cost £2170, including your membership fee. There are no other fees. All our fees are accessible here: Members prices
I'm interested, how do I start?
Simply turn up at the club on a flying day, report to the duty flight coordinator who will enter your name on the flying list.
There is no on-line booking system as there was for your first flight.
